The ABC Family promo department is throwing some pretty troubling teases at us in the promo for next week’s episode of Pretty Little Liars and the final episodes of the summer season. The short trailer teases a “#fAtalfinale” that will result in “one less liar”. With only three episode left until the summer finale, let the speculation begin! Which Liar will die?

Alison will die. Out of the five central protagonists on this show, Alison is the most expendable. Not only has she already died once, but she has only this season become a main character on the show. While the death of one of the core four would send potentially irreparable damage to the very structure of the program, Ali’s death would provide a shocking turn while still maintaining the model of the show: four friends trying to solve their BFF’s murder. Back to basics, people!

One of the other Liars will die. On the other hand, just because killing off one of the core four is risky, doesn’t mean it isn’t an interesting choice. With at least two more seasons of storytelling to fill, Pretty Little Liars is going to have to take some chances when it comes to switching up the format of the show. Though we highly doubt that will result in the death of one of its main characters, it would give the show a renewed sense of stakes and truly, truly shock us.

A non-Liar character will die. Let’s face it, though we only consider the core four Liars (with a big “L”), everyone on this show is a liar. We think it’s much more likely that one of the many supporting characters will bite the dust, as is PLL’s way, leaving the Liars to deal with the aftermath. So, who might it be? Our money is on Noel Kahn or Melissa Hastings. Both characters have gotten a lot of name-droppage this season, and are hiding secrets seemingly big enough to murder for.

One of the Liars will stop lying. At this point, someone telling the truth on this show may be even more shocking than someone turning up dead. Rather than referencing a Liar’s death, perhaps the “one less liar” tag refers to the choice of one of the Liars to stop, well, lying. As the summer season progresses, the Liars become increasingly fed up with Ali’s lies. Will one of them finally crack, telling the police everything she knows and effectively leaving Team Liar?
