On Pretty Little Liars Season 5, Episode 9 (“March of Crimes”), it was all but confirmed that Alison (Sasha Pieterse) has some sort of blackmail material on Noel Kahn (Brant Daugherty), and that's why he does her bidding.

But what could Ali have on Noel that would force him to go to such great lengths for her? After all, he's driven all up and down the East Coast and broken into multiple houses for her — clearly, she has him under her thumb. For a little while, we thought he might even be in love with her, but based on how he talked about her on Tuesday, that seems unlikely.

So, what's keeping Noel under Ali's control? Here are a few theories.

He was involved in a murder (or other crime). There are a number of unsolved crimes still floating around Rosewood, and since Noel seems to have weird connections to just about every shady character on this show, it's possible he was involved in one of them. If Ali has evidence of that, it might be enough to keep Noel doing what she wants, at least until he thinks she can one-up him.

It's a personal secret. Of course, not all secrets are criminal. Perhaps Noel has some shameful personal secret that Ali pried out of him, and is now holding over him as a threat.

It's something fabricated. This is Ali — she's willing to go to great lengths to get people to do her bidding. Is it possible that whatever she has on Noel isn't even real? Did she perhaps frame him for a crime he didn't commit?

She's not blackmailing him. Listen, we don't actually know that much about Noel. Maybe he really is in love with Ali, and is just playing Spencer right now. Or maybe he has his own goals — perhaps "A" or "A" team related — and is playing Alison in a long con. At this point, it's impossible to truly know.

Why do you think Noel does so much for Ali? Let us know in the comments below.
