Pretty Little Liars is a crazy show full of extreme twists. To stay ahead of the writers, fans have to come up with as many extreme, out-of-the-box theories possible. Fortunately, the Pretty Little Liars fandom is more than up to the task. Each week, we like to dive into the wilds of Tumblr and pick out an intriguing theory to explore.
This week, we want to talk about a theory we've seen several places: That, far from being a trick by "A", this man claiming to be Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) kidnapper is a trap set up by Tanner to prove Ali is lying.
Why do we like this theory? Here are a few reasons.
1. It would trip Ali and the Liars up. Based on the previews for next week, the Liars immediately assume "A" is behind the fake confession, so it would be fun to see their assumptions bite them in the butt.
2. We know Tanner is onto Ali. We also know Tanner is clearly onto Ali, so it makes sense that she might take an extreme step to try to prove that she's lying. It would also explain why she let Ali watch the interrogation while it was happening — that seems super unprofessional, but not if it's part of a trap.
3. It explains why the guy was willing to "confess." Why would someone confess to a crime they didn't commit? Even if "A" had blackmail on this person, you'd think the risk of jail would make this a hard thing to get someone to do. But if it's all a trick set up by Tanner, this suddenly makes sense — if he's just an actor hired by the police, or something like that, he knows he won't go to jail.
What do you think of this theory — is it possible, or totally crazy? Sound off in the comments below.
