At the end of the last episode of Pretty Little Liars, we learned that one of the Liars is ready to talk to the police. As we know that the core four sticks together no matter what, we can only assume the “Liar” in question is Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse). Why is she going to the cops? We speculate below…
To Take the Fall for Shana's Death
The show has done a good job the last few episodes convincing the Liars that Alison is in this for herself and doesn’t care what happens to her friends. We’re not as easily convinced. We want to believe that Ali has a plan that doesn’t put the Liars at risk. Though we don’t agree with her secret-keeping from the Liars, we think her heart may be in the right place and that she truly believes the Liars are better off not knowing everything. Furthermore, we think Ali’s plan to talk to Tanner might be to confess to killing Shana — something, we viewers know happened at Aria’s hand. Will Ali take the fall for Aria?
To Throw the Liars Under the Bus
On the other hand, we’ve been tricked by Ali before. Maybe the simplest explanation for Ali’s behavior — that she’s a mean girl who cares only for herself — is the right one. If so, throwing the Liars under the bus could be the smartest move she could make. Under the leadership of Alison, the Liars have lied themselves into a trap of the mean girl’s making. Who will believe they are telling the truth after so many lies? In the promo, we see at least one of the Liars getting handcuffed and arrested. Is this the direct repercussion of Ali’s conversation with the police? Does she throw the Liars under the bus for everything she’s done?
To Tell the Truth
A true shocker on this show would be someone actually telling the truth — bonus points if it’s to the police. We’re not sure what Ali’s plan is, but she may be forced to tell the police the truth. After all, the lies are coming crashing down around her. She can’t keep this up forever, especially if she wants “A” caught sometime this century. Will she realize in the summer finale that she has to choose between letting her friends take the fall for all of the lies she’s told and finally taking responsibility for her lies? If so, we want to believe she will make the right choice. We want to believe she’ll be the friend the Liars once believed she was.
