Pretty Little Liars left Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario) in a pretty precarious position at the end of the summer finale. Arrested for the murder of Bethany Young, she has some tough decisions to make about what to tell the Rosewood police — most importantly, whether she’ll expose her sister for inadvertently burying Bethany alive. Will Spencer give Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) up? Allow us to speculate.

Yes, it’s her best chance. If we were Spencer, we’d be totally freaked out right now. If she stays silent, she looks incredibly guilty. She doesn’t even remember the night in question. The only card she has to play at this point is Melissa’s video confession. And, given that Melissa is safely hidden away in Europe, she could take the fall. After all, the Hastings sisters might stand a better chance if they come clean. The person who originally attacked Bethany is still out there, and is potentially responsible for the other murders in Rosewood. Spence could help put a stop to the killing if she tells the police about Melissa — and with Mona’s death as a reminder that no one is safe, it’s a chance she may be inclined to take.

No, Melissa will turn herself in. Melissa may be a conniving woman, but she’s nothing if not loyal to her little sister. She has gone to great lengths to protect Spencer up until this point. Heck, she literally buried someone alive to protect her sister the consequences of the murder she’d thought Spencer committed. We think it’s even more likely that Melissa will give herself up to protect her sister than that Spencer will turn Melissa in.

No, Spencer will stay silent. Spencer could tell the police plenty — but, if she started spilling that one secret, could she stop? And would the police even believe her after so many lies? If Spencer starts spilling the truth, she would bring the rest of the Liars into this mess and possibly compromise them even further. She would definitely have to expose Ali’s lies about her fake kidnapping, and she might have to implicate Aria in Shana’s death. Basically, it is a slippery slope of craziness. And what would be guaranteed at the end? Could the police protect her and the other Liars from “A”? Would they even believe her enough to try? Spencer is smart; we have a feeling she’ll find a way out of this without exposing her friends.
