In the Season 5 summer finale of Pretty Little Liars, Officer Holbrook (Sean Faris) visited Alison (Sasha Pieterse) at her house following her lie detector test. He came to tell Ali something “in person,” but the scene cut away before we could find out what it was. What did Ali and Holbrook talk about?!

He told her she was not a suspect. This scene could have just been put in here to create suspense around the eventual reveal that the police no longer consider Ali a suspect in the murder of Bethany Young. This was revealed later in the episode when Mona hacked into the P.D.’s databases. Dull, but very possible explanation.

He told her they were going to arrest Spencer. There’s probably some rule that you can’t tell civilians about impending arrests, but since when has the Rosewood P.D. ever done silly things like follow rules? Heck, Holbrook told Ali in this very scene that he “shouldn’t be here without Lieutenant Tanner.” If Holbrook was about to arrest Spencer for killing Bethany Young, then perhaps he told Ali about it beforehand as a courtesy. Though, if he was thoughtful enough to do this, than you’d think he would have clued Mrs. Vanderwaal into her daughter’s homicide before announcing it in a press conference later in the episode. Good cop fail!

He was there to test a theory. We didn’t get to see much of Alison’s polygraph. The scene cut after the dude administering the test asked Ali to state her full name. Um, is there a chance Ali failed that question, meant to establish a base for the real questions later to come? This would tie in with the theory that Ali has a twin, and perhaps the girl we know as “Ali” isn’t Ali at all. If this is the case, could Holbrook have gone to Ali’s house to test his theory that “Ali” might not be who she says she is? He asks Ali if she plays piano, to which she answers: “I loved it as a kid, but I lost interest, can’t remember why.” We saw Alison play the piano in a flashback last season. Is this a clue that Ali has a twin? Is Holbrook onto her?

What do you think Holbrook and Alison talked about in that mysterious scene? Let us know in the comments below!
