Brendan Robinson (Lucas) is fast winning our hearts — and Hanna’s! — as straight-talking nerd Lucas. But when he first auditioned for Pretty Little Liars, he was rejected: for the role of Mike, Aria’s little brother.

"I originally auditioned for Mike Montgomery, back in the beginning of March," Brendan told Zap2It, but he was told he was too old for Mike. (Considering everyone on the show is about 25, we’re not sure why it matters!)

Yet Brendan says he’s glad things worked out that way. "I would choose just to be Lucas,” he says. “Honestly, it's one of those things where I think the right part came around at the right time ... I'm really thankful that I had the opportunity to embody him and bring him to life."

For Brendan, Lucas’ honesty is a breath of fresh air. "One of the things [fans have] said is how they appreciate that Lucas is probably the most real person in Rosewood. Particularly in this last episode, when he was the first person to straight-up say that Alison was evil."

We agree that it’s adorable the way Lucas tells it like it is, but it concerns us, too. There’s a reason why everyone else in town lies all the time — honesty in Rosewood is the kind of tendency that might get you “accidentally” shoved in front of a bus. Look both ways, Lucas!
