Although “A” does her best to expose the secret relationship between Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) and Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding) in the mid-season finale of Pretty Little Liars, the attempts will result in an unsuccessful mission on their nemesis part – at least until the second half of the season.
When Wetpaint Entertainment met up with Hale and Harding at a recent set visit, the stars revealed their hopes for Ezria in upcoming episodes.
“I want to see Aria and Ezra finally man up and tell her parents,” Hale told reporters when asked what she’d like to see happen this Spring “I really want to see that.”
Lucy thinks after almost two season of sneaking around it’s about time the couple lived out in the open – especially when they’re not technically doing anything wrong. “We’ve got to tell people,” says Hale. “Because they’re only gaining momentum. They’re going to be together for a while so it’s going to happen sooner or later.” Did you hear that Ezria shippers? These two are built to last!
Ian, like his co-star, believes the characters are soulmates who have little to hide. ”This obviously isn't a sexual thing, because they haven't explored that realm yet,” said Harding. “So what is keeping them together? It's something more than just simply him being a pervert who was trying to bag as many high school students as he can. Because he's not.”
But while Harding agrees that the romance makes for a great storyline, he also understands why some find a relationship between a student and teacher questionable.
“I don't totally condone it,” he told reporters. “I don't know what it's like to be a parent and to have your kids be like ‘Mr. So and So is really hot at my school.’ I would probably be put off by that as well. But it's a TV show, and in this situation Ezra and Aria, are peers. They just get each other. I think they connect on a level that is once in a lifetime, and rarely happens. Unfortunately they met in a place where this can’t really happen, such as a school.”
Which gives “A” plenty of fodder for evil threats. But who needs “A”, when there could be much less ominous bumps in the road, in the shape of ex-fiancé Jackie Molina (Paloma Guzman) or potential murder suspect Jason DiLaurentis (Drew Van Acker)?
“Jackie will be a big part in the mid-series finale,” teases Harding. “But also, right now we are shooting Episode 15, [and] I have seen Paloma, who plays Jackie, on set quite a bit. So, when we come back in January, she is here.”
And Jason might become a threat to the soulmates, once again. “I could absolutely see that coming back,” says Hale. “Because I think that Aria really did care about him and I guess feelings don’t go away.”
Whatever comes their way, Hale and Harding say, “Bring it on!”
“I think any incredibly loving relationship, which is what Aria and Ezra have, needs to go through these trials and tribulations, because how boring would it be if it was just so awesome?” says Harding. “Nobody cares. There has got to be some ups and downs!”
