Imagine if Shay Mitchell didn’t play Emily or Ashley Benson didn’t play Hanna? Yikes, we don’t even want to think about that because Pretty Little Liars would be completely different, but the good news is that most of the cast would still be on the show, just as different characters.

We’re glad the PLL producers found the right actors for the various roles, but here’s the cast we could have had:

While Troian Bellisario is perfect for Spencer Hastings, she had some competition for the part. Her current co-stars Shay and Janel Parrish both tried out for Spencer before moving on to their respective roles as Emily and Mona. But it sounds like Troian was a shoe in. She even told TVFanSpace.com, “I think I was the first person they were sure of. I mean, they offered Aria to Lucy [Hale] but I was the first person that they were sure of that they cast.”

Who wouldn’t want to play sarcastic and sweet it-girl Hanna Marin? Apparently Ashley Benson, Lucy, and Sasha Pieterse all wanted the part because all three girls auditioned for the role. Luckily, the PLL producers realized Lucy was right for Aria and Sasha would shine as Alison, so everyone received a role.

Either way Lucy would have kissed Brant Daugherty because he first auditioned as Ezra! He looks a little young to be her teacher, so he became her classmate and temporary boyfriend instead. And good thing Lucy was there to help cast Ian Harding as her on-screen soul mate or else our favorite couple could have been completely different.

Lastly, Aria could have had a different brother if Brendan Robinson was cast right away. He originally tried out as Mike Montgomery, but he’s a little too old and Lucas seemed like a much better fit.

We owe the PLL producers for picking out amazing stars for the right roles! And judging by the current cast, we have a feeling the new characters will be just as great. Check them out below!
