We were already suspicious of Byron Montgomery (Chad Lowe) after the Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode (Season 3, Episode 13: “This Is a Dark Ride”), but thanks to last night’s episode, Aria’s (Lucy Hale) dear old dad has officially added his name to our list of suspects … suspects for Alison’s (Sasha Pieterse) disappearance.

Up until the Halloween episode, Byron was nothing more than Aria’s sweet father who made a mistake that eventually cost him his marriage. But when Garrett (Yani Gellman) revealed that Byron was involved in a rather heated chat with Alison on the night of her disappearance, everything we thought we knew was turned on its head.

And after last night’s flashback, in which we once again got to see just how cruel Ali could be, we realized that Ali and Byron’s relationship was about what we expected … except not. We predicted that Ali was using Byron’s affair against him, but to those extremes?

So now, here’s our question: Could Byron have killed Alison?

No matter how much you like Byron, there’s one thing you can’t deny: Byron loves nothing more than his family, and he would’ve done anything to prevent Ella (Holly Marie Combs) from learning about his affair. After all, this is the same guy who asked his teenage daughter to lie to her own mother. So could Byron have killed Ali in an attempt to keep her quiet? Picture this: Ali is dialing Ella’s number and threatening to tell her everything. Byron panics. He hits her a little too hard … you know the rest. But it was all an accident. Hey, stranger things have happened in Rosewood.

However, as many mistakes as Byron has made, at the end of the day, he cares about his kids. The man does have a moral compass. So even if he panicked and killed Alison in the spur of the moment, we’re not sure we believe that Byron could’ve kept it a secret, particularly with having to watch his daughter grieve the loss of one of her best friends.

Do you think that Byron has it in him to kill? Did he kill Alison?
