The question on everyone's mind during the Pretty Little Liars Season 3 summer finale (Season 3, Episode 12: “The Lady Killer”) is, of course, "why is Toby [Keegan Allen] on the 'A' team?" Some fans cling to the possibility that Toby is still well-meaning — a common theory is that he infiltrated the "A" team to take them down from the inside. Is that possible?

In an interview with TVGuide, showrunner Marlene King was quoted as flat out saying "no" when asked if Toby has good intentions. However, that answer was later removed from the interview, and a recent tweet from Marlene indicates that there's still more flexibility to Toby's motives than you may think.

A fan recently asked Marlene via Twitter,  "Is it confirmed Toby has no good intentions? Please reply!!! :)"

Marlene replied, "not confirmed or denied."

So there you have it, folks: Toby's intentions are still unclear. Of course, it's worth noting that Toby has plenty of reasons to hate the Liars, and  PLL executive producer Oliver Goldstick has hinted that we'll learn even more about Toby's past and potential motivations in the PLL winter season.

What do you think: Is Toby good, bad, or somewhere in-between?

Catch the PLL Halloween special on Tuesday, October 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
