When it comes down to it, we lump any Rosewood residents between the ages of 19-25 into one quasi-villainous category. They could be suspects. They could be victims. They’re probably both. That’s just how it is. Which is why we were only sort of surprised to find out that Wilden seems to be connected with Melissa, Jenna, and Shana — the team we now collectively refer to as the “B” Team.
And according to a new TVLine spoiler, we should be very worried about this trio. “We saw [in last week's finale] that they’re a weird trio, like Macbeth’s witches, with Melissa and Jenna and Shana plotting," executive producer Oliver Goldstick spills. "So the four girls start Season 4 questioning what the alliance is between those three. Is one of them actually giving orders to the others? What bonds them besides their antipathy toward Alison and the Liars?”
Given this new intel, let's examine the relationship between the "B" Team and our favorite Rosewood residents.
The Season 3 finale saw Wilden’s swamp-mucked car parked outside the Marin house, the video of him being run over by Ashley Marin still miraculously showing. This time, though, there was more to the video narrative! This time, we saw Jenna and Shana helping an injured Wilden away from the scene of the crime. Collusion!
How do all of these people know each other? Our first thought is the N.A.T. Club, the group originally started by Ian, Garrett, and Jason to more or less spy on/film Rosewood residents. Melissa and Jenna both have known affiliations with the N.A.T. Club . It would be a bit out in left field, but could Wilden have been associated with the N.A.T. Club at one time, as well? He was a police officer with Garrett (and teamed up in this adorably naive attempt to hack into Caleb’s laptop) and know from his history with Alison and Cece that he has been in Rosewood for a while.
The Enemy of My Enemy Is My Friend
Alternatively, could Wilden have teamed up with Melissa, Jenna, and Shana as targets/enemies of the N.A.T. Club and/or “A” Team? We know from the Season 3 finale, that Jenna and Melissa are still trying to get “the tapes” back. Could Wilden also be interested in these tapes? Could they be the reason he was so desperate to retrieve his car? At this point, Blackmail 101 is probably a class being taught at Rosewood High. We wouldn’t be surprised if Melissa, Jenna, and Shana have a common enemy with Wilden that has bonded this unlikely quartet together.
Speaking of blackmail, we know Wilden isn’t against using it. We saw Jenna and Shana helping Wilden after he lost the fight with Ashley Marin’s car, but that doesn’t mean they’re best friends (Jenna and Melissa weren’t exactly exchanging friendship bracelets when they met-up with Shana at Jenna’s house). What if Wilden is blackmailing the girls into helping him? Or, alternatively, if the girls are blackmailing Wilden into helping them (could they know about his past with Ali)? To what purpose? We don’t know. They seem awfully concerned with retrieving these tapes...
