After the big reveal on the Pretty Little Liars Season 3 summer finale (Season 3, Episode 12: “The Lady Killer”) the question on everyone's mind is, "Why is Toby (Keegan Allen) on the 'A' team?"
Many fans jumped to the theory that Toby only recently infiltrated the team, as a way to help Spencer (Troian Bellisario) by taking down "A" from the inside. Is that possible? In a recent interview with TVLine, PLL executive producer Oliver Goldstick weighed in on the theory.

When TVLine suggested that Toby is infiltrating the "A" team for noble reasons, Oliver replied, "I’m not so sure about that. You’re going to find out some stuff in Season 3B [the Season 3 winter season] … Don’t forget what those girls did. No one stood up for him when he was put away in juvie hall because of Alison. Those other four girls were passive; no one defended him or did anything. Just remember that."
Oliver reiterated later in the interview that the "mystery of Toby, his motivation and why he’d do this to the girls is explored" in the second half of the season, and he warns fans not to "put [really being part of the "A" team] past him."
What do you think: Is Toby really part of the "A" team, or is it all an act?
UPDATE: In another interview showrunner Marlene King said "No" when asked if Toby has good intentions. [Ed. Note: This question and answer has since been removed from the TV Guide interview, but existed in the original transcript.]
