We realize that previews are often misleading, and we should probably just wait to watch the episode before we start freaking out over WTF is going on with Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Ali (Sasha Pieterse) in the promo for Pretty Little Liars Season 3, Episode 18: "Dead to Me."

On the other hand, have you seen that promo? There's no way we can wait until next week before we start wondering what it all means.

This is what we know: In the preview, Emily receives a postcard from "A" that's written in French. The message roughly translates to "Stop digging! The police already know it's you who's capable of murder."

The digging theme continues when Emily goes to see Dr. Sullivan, who suggests hypnotherapy to unearth repressed memories. And it appears what Emily remembers involves a hysterical Ali and a stone-cold Emily raising a shovel as if she's about to hit someone.

The flashback definitely appears to be from the night Ali died, since she's wearing what appears to be the same yellow shirt. The obvious implication is that Emily was involved with Ali's death, and repressed it all. Could that be true?

Somehow, we doubt it. We're not saying there's no way the writers will make Emily guilty of murder (or at least of burying Ali alive), but it seems unlikely, given everything we've seen so far.

So, what else could explain the flashback we're shown? Well, a lot of things.

Maybe the shots are a cut together in a misleading way — perhaps Ali was yelling at someone else, and Emily was actually raising the shovel to defend her friend. Maybe Ali and Emily got into a fight and Emily raised the shovel threateningly but didn't actually hit Ali.

Or maybe it's something else entirely. For instance, we still don't entirely trust Dr. Sullivan — is it possible that she leads Emily to misremember, so that she thinks she's guilty when she's not?

Of course, maybe Emily actually does have a super-dark streak, and was involved in some way. On this show, anything is possible!
