Time moves differently in Rosewood than in the real world. The first two seasons of Pretty Little Liars took place over the course of a single school year; Season 3 began exactly one year after the discovery of Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) body in the series premiere. The Liars may be in their senior year now, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're going to see them graduate any time soon.
In fact, according to PLL writer Andy Reaser, we could be waiting a long time for that big day.

A fan recently tweeted at Andy, saying, "We want a graduating episode .. What do you think??"
Andy replied, "I think it won't be till season 5."
Whoa! That's even longer than we thought. That would mean that Season 3, Season 4, and at least part of Season 5 all take place during senior year. Well, at least we know it will be a long time before we have to face the dreaded "what happens when they go to college?" problem that plagues so many high school shows.
Also, does this answer mean the writers are already banking on Season 5? The show has already been renewed for Season 4, and the ratings are still strong, so Season 5 is definitely a real possibility. Which is good, because we want to see our girls graduate!
Don’t miss the next new episode of PLL, the Halloween special, on Tuesday, October 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
