With Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding) and Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) broken up, can the original Pretty Little Liars romance be replaced, perhaps by another big romance like Spencer and Toby? Showrunner Marlene King recently weighed in on that fraught question.

“No one could ever replace Ezria,” Marlene tweeted yesterday in response to a fan’s concern that Spoby has usurped Ezria. “B26 forever.”

Sounds like there is definitely more to the love story between Ezra and Aria, even though the two won’t be together for at least the beginning of Season 4.

We're not surprised! Marlene has said before that “there’s always hope” for Ezria and that the couple is endgame, but when the writer makes references to Ezria’s romantic past, you know she has made the couple a priority.

For those unaware, the “B26” in Marlene's tweet refers to the poem Ezra wrote about Aria. Ezra never meant for Aria to read it, but “A” placed the poem in Aria’s locker in Season 1, Episode 10: “Keep Your Friends Close,” prompting the pair to get back together.

We wonder if the poem will come back into play in Season 4? It has already proven a catalyst for an Ezria reunion once. Could it serve that purpose again? Or perhaps Ezra will write something else inspired by Aria? A short story or a novel, even? Or maybe Aria will be the writer this time. Both Aria and Ezra are writers — it was a common interest that came up in their very first conversation. We think poem or prose would be an especially fitting way to bring them back together.

Are you glad to see Marlene’s Ezria-loving tweet? How do you think the two will eventually get back together? Let us know in the comments below!
