When we last saw the Little Liars in the Pretty Little Liars Season 2 finale (Season 2, Episode 25: “UnmAsked”), they were all in a bit of shock. Mona (Janel Parrish) was revealed to be “A,” Garrett (Yani Gellman) was arrested, a mysterious Black Swan character was introduced, Ezria went public, and Maya (Bianca Lawson) was murdered.
Before heading into Season 3, let’s review where we left off with all of the key players.
Aria (Lucy Hale)
Instead of breaking up or continuing their game of hide-and-seek all over Rosewood, Ezria made a daring move by dancing together at the masquerade ball. Ezra (Ian Harding) was the one who spearheaded the decision to go public, when he showed up unexpectedly after threatening to leave Rosewood for good. One would think that this means Ezria will be stronger than ever, and we know that we’re in for a steamy makeout scene in the Season 3 premiere (Season 3, Episode 1: “It Happened ‘That Night’”). But last we saw him, Ezra was still unemployed, and clearly unwelcome at any schools in Rosewood.
Hanna (Ashley Benson)
After finding out that her best friend (aside from the Liars) had been torturing her for almost a year, Hanna must be devastated. Towards the end of Season 2, Hanna and Mona’s bond had grown even stronger, as Mona pretended to help Hanna keep her shoplifting charge under wraps, and gave Hanna a new phone after she plopped hers in the sink. Of all the Little Liars, Hanna was the victim of the most manipulation and deceit. Her guard must be up, and her trust in others weakened. Let’s hope that doesn’t translate into trouble for Haleb.
Spencer (Troian Bellisario)
Spencer was the one who went through the most physical trauma in the Season 2 finale. As the only Liar who was actually with “A” that night, Spencer had to take the brunt of Mona’s psychotic babbling. But she also saved Mona’s life. Is it possible that, having saved Mona from an ugly death, those on the “A” team will take it easy on her? Spencer also has a wealth of tangled family issues to deal with. Not only did her parents keep her half-brother Jason (Drew Van Acker) a secret from her, but her sister Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) is dating Garrett, and she discovered that her father had hired a private detective to track Melissa after Alison’s (Sasha Pieterse) death. On the other hand, Spencer also has Toby (Keegan Allen) back. His romantic gesture and declaration of love should mean that Spoby is on big-time. But will she continue to be distracted by Wren (Julian Morris)?
Emily (Shay Mitchell)
If any of the Liars are dealing with post-traumatic stress, it’s probably Emily. Her first true love was brutally murdered, and apparently on her own property. We know from sneak peeks that Emily has turned to alcohol to deal with her pain, but eventually she’ll have to face her feelings. Who does she think murdered Maya? And what will she do once she finds out?
- Garrett was arrested, thanks to a tip-off from ex-girlfriend Jenna (Tammin Sursok). How is he faring in jail?
- Jenna got her eyesight back, but is still pretending that she can’t see. Why?
- Melissa was spotted picking up a mysterious package in Rosewood, and now her boyfriend is in jail. What is she hiding, and when will she have that baby of hers?
- Mona is behind locked doors at Radley Sanitorium. Is she talking?
- Lucas (Brendan Robinson) is working with the Black Swan and Jenna somehow. What’s their alliance all about?
- Jason was mysteriously missing from the Season 2 finale. Where does he fit into all of this?
Catch an all-new Pretty Little Liars when Season 3 premieres on Tuesday, June 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
