Earlier this season on Pretty Little Liars, Hanna (Ashley Benson) was the Liar who spent her time trying to figure out “A” Team-er Mona’s (Janel Parrish) agenda, but ever since the revelation of Toby’s betrAyal, it has been Spencer (Troian Bellisario) who has been trying to crack the twisted brunette. What does Janel have to say about the Spencer/Mona dynamic and what’s next in their battle? Read on to find out...
“What's interesting for me is how Mona and Spencer have now completely switched characters,” Janel told The Hollywood Reporter. “Mona is almost like the new Spencer now. She's in charge, she's cool as a cucumber and, nothing seems to faze her.”
Janel divulged that, in next week’s episode (Season 3, Episode 22: “Will the Circle Be Unbroken?”), Mona pays Spencer a visit at Radley Sanitarium, the very facility she was confined to for the first half of the season.
“Mona comes and visits [Spencer] with her extremely condescending smile,” shared Janel. “Mona's very, very pleased with the way things are going.”
According to Janel, Spence is not taking the lock-up well: “She goes insane. She doesn't know anything that's happening...In the next episode, you'll see what that revelation of finding Toby's body did to her.”
If you think Mona will be taking it easy on Spence now that she’s gone off of the deep end, think again. Janel said Mona is still “playing games” with her, bringing up the “A” Team invitation Mona extended and Spencer turned down at the end of Season 2. Apparently, Mona does not take rejection well: “Since Spencer turned Mona down last season, Mona has made it her mission to destroy Spencer, and she got her way.”
So, what’s next for the dastardly Mona?
“Ultimately, destroying the four girls,” said Janel, making no secret of Mona’s plans. She added that we will find out more about how Mona intends to do that in the next episode, all of it leading up to the reveal of who Red Coat is in the season finale, and if she has anything to do with the “A” Team.
Do you think Red Coat has anything to do with the “A” Team? What do you think Mona’s next step is? Let us know in the comments below!
