After the baby care package arrived outside of Ezra’s (Ian Harding) door in Pretty Little Liars Season 3, Episode 14: “She’s Better Now”, we started really thinking about how long Aria (Lucy Hale) is going to be able to keep this you-have-a-son thing a secret. And even if Aria isn’t the one to spill the beans, how long do we have to wait before Ezra learns he’s a father? And what will happen to the couple when he does?

Zap2It recently spoke to PLL showrunner Marlene King and executive producer Oliver Goldstick about the future of Ezria, and we have good news and questionable news. The good news is that it won’t be long before Ezra finds out, and he’s not necessarily going to be mad at Aria for keeping it from him. The bad news is that it changes everything for the adorable couple.

“I can't say Aria's going to [reveal it], but it's going to happen, and it's going to be a tectonic shift in their relationship. We try to handle it in this grounded way. Ezra is profoundly affected by this. It's enormous, and it's life changing, and he's going to have to reevaluate everything, including his relationship with Aria,” Oliver said.

The introduction of Ezra’s child is going to bring the couple’s biggest issue to light: their age difference. Oliver explains:

“Look, he's in love with this girl. We've done our best to make it believable that a 23-year-old would be interested in her; she's more sophisticated than your average high school girl. We try to make it credible that they'd have something to talk about. But she's going to feel out of place here. Ezra's going through something that's really out of her league. How to comfort him, how to discuss this, what role should she play, where does she fit into this equation. She's suddenly an outsider in this equation. She doesn't really have a place in this nuclear family.”

And how will Wesley’s (Gregg Sulkin) return affect their relationship? According to Marlene, his presence forces Aria to rethink the age difference in the same way that Ezra’s son makes him rethink it.

“He's like a little mini Ezra, but he's Aria's age. It's a chance for her to look in the mirror and say, 'Is this really what I signed up for? Is this what I want? Would life be simpler with a boy my own age?' The answer lies in the journey of the season,” King said.

So will Aria jump ship from a Fitz to a Fitzgerald?

“On paper, this is who Aria should be with, because they're going through the same milestones. The two of them are on a parallel path,” Oliver said.

But just because it works on paper doesn’t mean it will work in real life. Which brother do you think Aria should be with?
