We don't mean to be the bearer of pessimistic speculation, but we're worried about Toby's (Keegan Allen) loyalties in Season 4. Pretty Little Liars producer and writer Oliver Goldstick said that Toby would be “sucked back into the vortex of ‘A’” in the upcoming season. Here are five reasons we think Toby might join the “A” Team for real:

The Mom Connection

We have yet to meet Toby's late mother (though we did meet her tombstone when Spence keyed it in Season 3), but we will be introduced to Marion Cavanaugh in the Season 4 premiere. We're guessing the meet-and-greet will be delivered in flashback form as word on the Interweb is Toby will be getting one of his very own, PLL flashbacks usually correspond to relevant goings-on in the present, and we know Marion stayed in Radley, which seems to be Mystery Central in Rosewood. Will Toby learn something about his mother that prompts him to join the “A” Team for real?

To Take Down Ali

It's no secret that Toby and Ali were not close. Just ask his do-rag. It was there for the seriously awkward and tense flashback convo between the two in Season 3, Episode 17: “Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Inferno.” Ali went to visit Toby in juvie while he was serving his time for the fire that Ali and the other Liars had started (and subsequently blackmailed Toby into admitting to). Toby hates Alison and if she is, in fact alive and well and running around in a Red Coat, it's possible he would do anything to take her down.

Arson Charge

The Season 3 finale left Toby holding the evidence that he started another fire: the lighter that ignited the Thornhill Lodge. The fire almost killed the Liars, and we're guessing the Hastings are going to be none too pleased about the property damage. Sure, we know that Toby was knocked unconscious and had the lighter planted on him, but we're not sure if the Rosewood PD caught the episode. Toby has already gone to the Slammer once for arson and his do-rag almost didn't survive it. Now that he's 18, we're guessing he'll be sent to actual jail rather than juvie for this one. If “A” has evidence of Toby's “involvement” with the fire, she could make him do almost anything.

He Already Is

We know Toby is a man of few words, but he could have contributed a few more to his explanation for joining the “A” Team in the first place. He mumbled something about doing it to protect Spence, teared up, and we bought it hook, line, and sinker. We don't want to believe it's true, but what if Toby is a baddie? His Evil Glare was pretty impressive for someone just faking it. Pretty Eyes or not, we need to get to the bottom of this in Season 4!

Caleb's Departure

We're very much looking forward to the Caleb/Toby bromance promised in Season 4, but what happens when Caleb packs his bags for Ravenswood come the Halloween special? What's his bro-mate to do? He could take it all in stride, or he could nose-dive into depression Spencer-style and join the “A” Team in his misery. Hey, it's happened on this show before.
