Who is Pretty Little Liars’ Queen of Hearts? We still don’t know! And we should probably care given that she (or he?) has proven herself willing to commit serious evils (i.e. drugging Aria and trying to kill Spencer and possibly Paige). PLL writer Bryan Holdman teased that we will discover the identity of the mysterious figure in Season 4. What do you know about the Queen of Hearts and who might be under the mask?

The Halloween Train

Refresher: the Queen of Hearts first popped up in last year’s Halloween episode: Season 3, Episode 13: “This Is A Dark Ride.” S/he drugged Aria, nearly pushed Spencer off the Halloween train, and attacked Paige when she came to Spencer’s rescue. The Queen leaves a rather large fake nail in Spencer’s hair. This clue, along with the attacker’s larger frame and masculine grunts while s/he was attacking Spence, points to the possibility that the Queen of Hearts is a man. If this is the case, possible suspects include the mysterious Eddie Lamb, Dr. Wren, or maybe even Mike Montgomery (missing for the third season, but set to return in Season 4).

Season 3B Follow-Up

We haven’t seen the Queen of Hearts strike again, but we have seen remnants of her/his existence: “A” burying the Queen of Hearts mask in the woods. Emily manages to get the credit card information of the person who rented the costume from the costume shop with the hopes that Caleb will be able to trace the card’s owner. Will this be the clue that leads to the Queen of Hearts unveiling? Or will it be one of the secrets Mona spills? Mona was also dressed up the night of the Halloween train party, and seems to have some sort of connection to the Queen of Hearts.

Pretty Dirty Secrets

We also catch a glimpse of the Queen of Hearts (or at least the costume) in Pretty Dirty Secrets, the web series that aired prior to the Halloween train episode. In the short scene, a petite, brown-haired girl wears the costume. Is this just a random customer (very creepily) trying on the costume or could it be someone who is working with the person who wears the costume on the train? There is no shortage of suspicious brunettes in Rosewood. Melissa and Jenna both look a lot like the person in the webisode and Melissa at least has a history of donning costumes (i.e. the Black Swan) for nefarious purposes.

“B” Team Connection

Though it previously seemed like the Queen of Hearts was working for the “A” Team (we see “A” burying the mask), with the reveal of the “B” Team in the season 3 finale, an affiliation with the lesser-known squad seems a possibility. Shana is an employee at the costume shop and has easy access to the costume. She would also be able to change the customer information about who rented the costume to keep the Liars off of the “B” Team’s trail. It seems unlikely that Melissa would condone an attack on her sister, but you never know. Plus, if that was a “B” Team meeting at Jenna’s house in the season 3 finale, it doesn’t seem like they are always in agreement with the appropriate course of action.

Our Best Guess

With the knowledge that the Queen of Heart’s identity will be revealed and that Mona will be spilling secrets in the beginning of Season 4, we think she will be the one to “de-mask” the Queen of Hearts. Our favorite theory at the moment is that the Queen of Hearts may be Eddie Lamb. We don’t want it to be true, but he has a connection with Mona and was awfully nice to Spencer when she was in Radley (guilt, perhaps?). He would have been strong enough to overpower both Spencer and Paige and, as we did not even know him yet, we cannot account for his whereabouts the night of the Halloween train party.
