Season 3 of Pretty Little Liars was chock full of hints that Alison Dilaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) may have an identical twin sister -- just like in the books. But PLL has not always followed the plot of its literary counterpart and PLL executive producer Oliver Goldstick just told TV Guide that they’re not exploring the twin storyline. Could we be wrong about the possible existence of Courtney Dilaurentis?

“We’re not exploring that,” Oliver said in direct response to the “Could Alison have a twin?” query. Does he mean they’re not exploring the twin twist now or ever? We’re not sure, but he did reveal an upcoming storyline involving another Dilaurentis family member: Ali’s mother.

“[Mrs. Dilaurentis] comes back and inhabits the house and her agenda for why she returned is intriguing and peculiar,” said Oliver.

Maybe she’s worried about her missing son (we sure are!), or worse -- perhaps she returns to Rosewood to attend Jason’s funeral? Could he have been the shocking something found by the Liars in the trunk of Wilden’s car? “Intriguing and peculiar” makes us think it’s something more than that, though. Could Mrs. Dilaurentis know that Ali is still alive? ...Is Ali still alive?

We’re not sure we buy this outright denial of the twin storyline. PLL has tried to mislead us before (Toby’s death anyone?). Perhaps Mrs. Dilaurentis’ return to Rosewood could mark the beginning of the twin reveal. If anyone knows if Ali was a twin or not, it’s her.

Do you really think the show is avoiding the twin storyline? Do you want it to? Let us know in the comments below!
