After the Pretty Little Liars Season 3 summer finale (Season 3, Episode 12: “The Lady Killer”), we know who at least two members of the “A” team are: Toby (Keegan Allen) and Mona (Janel Parrish). But unless Toby magically transformed into a blonde girl in a red dress for one night, there is still at least one other “A” unaccounted for.

We’ve gone over our own theories about why Ali might still be alive, from the are-they-or-aren’t-they hallucinations to the popular twin theory from the books. But let’s take it one step further, and look at some reasons why Alison (Sasha Pieterse) could be on the “A” team.

1. The Blonde in the Red Dress. One of the biggest mysteries from the Season 2 finale (Season 2, Episode 25: “UnmAsked”) has to do with the blonde in the red dress  at the Masquerade Ball who may or may not have also been the same blonde who visited Mona at Radley Sanatorium. We think it’s clear that this mystery blonde is on the “A” team, and who else has long blonde hair? It’s possible that the blonde was CeCe, but why would CeCe be sneaking around? The Liars didn’t even know her then.

2. The Twin Theory. Taking inspiration from the books, we think it’s possible that Alison’s twin Courtney is the one who’s dead. That would mean that Alison has been alive this entire time, staying in Rosewood and possibly plotting revenge against the Liars for being friends with Courtney. Alison would have been able to recruit people who were mistreated by Courtney (Toby and Mona), and wanted to hurt the Liars for being friends with her.

3. Alison Could Have Been Playing the Liars All Along. There was always something so snarky, so sneaky, and so smirky about the way Alison spoke to each of the Liars. It always seemed like Alison was treating them more like toys or pets than actual friends. And the way she used their secrets as collateral to control them was just plain manipulation. What if Alison has always hated the Liars and just enjoyed torturing them? If so, she could have manipulated Toby and Mona just as easily into hating them, too.
