Now that we’ve learned that Lucas (Brendan Robinson) will be playing a substantial part in the Pretty Little Liars Season 3 winter season (premiering January 8), it’s time to start figuring out whose side he’s on, and how he’ll change the dynamic.
Brendan Robinson revealed in a recent interview that we’ll learn more about his relationship with Mona, and that he’ll be making a confession to someone. As poor Garrett (Yani Gellman) discovered in the Halloween episode (Season 3, Episode 13: “This Is a Dark Ride”), confessing something at the wrong time can be fatal. After Garrett told Spencer (Troian Bellisario) what he saw the night Alison (Sasha Pieterse) was killed, someone murdered him just minutes later.
We hope Lucas doesn’t make the same mistake, but what could his confession be about? Here are a few theories.
He’s working for the “A” team. As PLL fans know, Lucas and Mona (Janel Parrish) had an early connection long before “A” started threatening Alison, and Ali wound up dead. They were both nerds who were tortured by Alison, and they both desperately wanted the Liars to like them. It would make sense that Lucas would join forces with Mona, especially after realizing just how crazy Lucas can be. Starting a fire in the middle of a school day for no apparent reason? Yeah, we’re pretty sure that qualifies.
He drugged Emily “that night.” After Emily (Shay Mitchell) was drugged in the Season 3 premiere (Season 3, Episode 1: “It Happened ‘That Night’”), and driven by Jenna (Tammin Sursok) to Alison’s empty grave, the Liars spotted Lucas going into the photography studio in the middle of the night. We know that someone took a lot of pictures of the Liars standing over Ali’s grave that night, and Lucas is good at sneaking around. Plus, Aria (Lucy Hale) later found Maya’s (Bianca Lawson) prescription pills in Lucas’s camera bag, which would have been just the right thing to put Emily to sleep. Interestingly, this would mean Lucas is working with Jenna, who we don’t necessarily think is on the “A” team. And Lucas was spotted conspiring with Jenna in the Season 2 finale at the masquerade ball. What would have brought Lucas and Jenna together, and what do they want from the Liars?
He murdered Alison. This is more of a long shot, and it could also coincide with either of the above theories. Lucas would need to be incredibly crazy (in a non-functioning way) to confess this to pretty much anyone except his lawyer, so we’re doubting that this is the case. Still, you never know what goes on in Rosewood.
