We here at Wetpaint Entertainment love hearing your Pretty Little Liars theories, especially when one of you points out a new mystery. That’s what PLL super-fan Katie P. (@iaddictedtoPLL) did recently, when she asked us about Dr. Sullivan, her son, and their possible connection to Toby (Keegan Allen).
As you’ll recall, in the Season 2 finale (Season 2, Episode 25: “UnmAsked”), Dr. Sullivan made her dramatic return to Rosewood. She claimed that “A” had threatened her son, and told her to stay away from Rosewood and the Little Liars. We saw part of that scene in Season 2, Episode 12: “Over My Dead Body.”
Dr. Sullivan was speaking so fast that we barely even registered that she has a son. Since she appears to be the same age as the Little Liars’ moms, her son could potentially be a student at Rosewood High. She and he would obviously keep the information confidential, but who do you think he might be? Which brings us to Toby.
Toby finally told Spencer (Troian Bellisario) why he’d been avoiding her in the weeks leading up to “A”’s discovery, in the Season 2 finale. It was all very romantic, except that he sort of brushed over the whole Dr. Sullivan connection, and how he’d found her. Back in March, Executive Producer Oliver Goldstick sort of explained what happened by saying, “Toby had been clued in that someone was torturing the girls, so he made the connection that that person could have been holding Dr. Sullivan at bay. I can’t explain all of that to you now — it will certainly unfold.”
As Katie P. points out, “How did Toby get in contact with Dr.Sullivan? Is Toby her step-son? Toby did take an impulsive but much needed escape from Rosewood after his near death experience at Spencer's barn, but isn't it a coincidence that Toby and Dr.Sullivan returned on the same night in the season 2 finale?”
Too much of a coincidence, if you ask us. That, combined with Oliver’s promise that we will eventually find out more about the Toby and Dr. Sullivan story, makes us wonder if and how they’re related. What if Dr. Sullivan is Toby’s real mother? Or she could be Jenna’s real mother, and Toby’s step-mother. We’ve always wanted more information on Toby and Jenna’s (Tammin Sursok) parents, so Dr. Sullivan might be one of the first clues.
