On Pretty Little Liars Season 3, Episode 8: “Stolen Kisses”, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) discovers Garrett’s (Yani Gellman) case file in her mother’s briefcase. Spence and Aria (Lucy Hale) take quick photos of all the files, and try to analyze the details of Maya’s (Bianca Lawson) murder. While the information they discovered came fast and furious, we watched the scene again to find out what, exactly, we learned about the night Maya was murdered.
Here’s what came out of Spencer and Aria’s brief discussion.
Maya wasn’t just strangled. As Aria reads from what could be a coroner’s report, “Her trachea was crushed by a pipe or a metal bar.” Spencer says that it could have been Garrett’s police stick, but we’re still unconvinced that Garrett killed Maya. The good news is, if there was a physical murder weapon, then it’s still out there, and could supply proof — like fingerprints — of who really did it.
The crime scene. Aria reads, “Lividity indicates the victim was killed at the scene.” When she asks Spencer what “lividity” means, Spence says, “It’s the way blood settles in the body when the heart stops. It means Maya was killed right there in Emily’s [Shay Mitchell] backyard.
The time frame. Spencer learns, “Maya was killed the same night that Garrett was arrested at my house.” We already sort of knew that, considering that the Liars saw Garrett with Melissa at the Hastings’ house after their horrific ordeal with Mona (Janel Parrish). And minutes later, Maya’s body was found. But when Aria notes that Maya was killed “between 10pm and 2am,” we can probably eliminate a few suspects right away. Mona, of course, and Toby (Keegan Allen), for starters.
Bart Comstock. Bart, who we later learned manages the Rosewood movie theater, is listed as a prosecutorial witness in Mrs. Hastings’s files. Next to his name, Mrs. Hastings wrote, “Check credibility. Break him and it falls apart.” After talking to Bart, Aria learns that he plans to testify that he saw Maya get into Garrett’s car the night she died. Clearly, Mrs. Hastings wants to break apart his story so he doesn’t damage Garrett’s chances of getting acquitted. Why would Bart be lying in order to put Garrett in jail?
Can you think of anyone else that we can eliminate from the suspect pool based on this new information?
