What happened to Lucas (Brendan Robinson) on Pretty Little Liars? In terms of character arcs, he’s gone through some dramatic changes. And judging by the Season 3 premiere (Season 3, Episode 1: “It Happened ‘That Night’”), he may have officially crossed over to the dark side.
In Season 1, Lucas was simply Hanna’s (Ashley Benson) geeky friend who had a crush on her. But towards the middle of Season 2, Lucas became a new “A” suspect, when he insisted on speaking to Hanna alone on a rowboat in the middle of her surprise party for Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) (Season 2, Episode 15: “A Hot Piece of A”). When he went missing and returned with a story about gambling problems, it seemed like his story was wrapped up in a way. We didn’t see him again until the Season 2 finale (Season 2, Episode 25: “UnmAsked”), when he was seen talking intimately with Jenna (Tammin Sursok) and the Black Swan.
Then, his “sketchy” reappearance in the Season 3 premiere made him look even more suspicious than ever. Hanna and Aria (Lucy Hale) spotted him walking around Rosewood alone in the middle of the night, right after the Liars discovered Alison’s (Sasha Pieterse) missing body in the graveyard. Spencer (Troian Bellisario) tried to say Hi to him at Senior Registration day, but he ignored her, speaking instead to a new girl who just happened to be tall, brunette, and skinny — just like the Black Swan.
The revelation that Mona (Janel Parrish) is “A” helps to connect Lucas to the “A” team. As we saw in the Halloween episode (Season 2, Episode 13: ”The First Secret”), Lucas was once a nerdy ally of Mona’s. They both served as Ali’s punching bags, mocked by her and excluded from the popular crowd. Also, Alison had started a mean rumor about Lucas being born a hermaphrodite, and she called him “Hermy” as a nickname.
So Lucas would have just as much hatred for Alison as Mona did, and that automatically puts him, Mona, and Jenna on the same team. Jenna, of course, hated Alison after the “Jenna Thing,” which left her blind.
Do you think all the evidence points to Lucas as the new “A”?
