The anticipation for tonight’s summer finale (Season 3, Episode 12: “The Lady Killer”) of Pretty Little Liars cannot be overstated. Fans (us included) are spending their day watching the clock, concocting tens upon tens of betrAyal theories, and praying that Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) makes it out alive. But until 8 p.m. EST, all we’ve got for you is more potential spoilers. We’d say sorry if we didn’t all love it so much!

In a new interview with Hollywood Life, PLL showrunner Marlene King talked about how tonight’s betrAyal will affect the Liars: “They’re on rocky ground at the beginning of the episode, as the girls are suspecting that Paige is on the 'A' team. By the end of the episode, they’re reunited in a heartbreaking scene. When I watch it, I cry every time,” she said.

What is this about a heartbreaking scene?! Could it have to do with the death sneak peek we’ve already seen, or is there more destruction coming to Rosewood?

Maybe the heartbreak is in finding out who has betrayed the core four. If the betrayer is someone close to the Liars (which the press release for the episode says is the case), we imagine that it would string just a little bit to find out that a friend (or family member?) has been plotting your downfall in a BIG way.

Which scene do you think Marlene is referencing? If it’s not the apparent death, what else could be so upsetting? How much more heartbreak can the Liars take? Correction: How much more heartbreak can we take?!

One thing’s for certain: Have a box of tissues next to you on the couch tonight. You’re going to need it.
