Ever since the Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode (Season 3, Episode 13: “This Is a Dark Ride”) on Tuesday, we’ve been wrestling with one thought in particular: Just how twisted are the people of Rosewood? Could the parents really be involved in all of this “A” team nonsense?

Well, it looks like we got our answer ...

TVLine recently spoke to PLL executive producer Oliver Goldstick about the second half Season 3 (which will air in January), and where the Halloween episode was and was not misleading. And when it comes to Byron Montgomery (Chad Lowe), Oliver said:

“You’re going to like the season opener — and by no means is this a red herring. We are definitely going down this path. I’m sorry to tell you, but even the adults in Rosewood have been doing some lying — and they’ve got some real stuff to hide! You’re going to find out a lot more about his relationship to Alison in the first couple episodes… A parent may have killed one of his daughter’s friends. This is a huge secret that’s been swept beneath the rug. What does it do to any family in this town if, in fact, one of those parents goes to jail?”

OK, if a parent ends up in jail, we officially nominate him or her for Worst Parent of Rosewood in advance.

Are you shocked by this bit of news? Which parent are you most suspicious of? Byron? What about Emily’s (Shay Mitchell) often-absent dad? And then there’s always Spencer’s (Troian Bellisario) slightly frightening father …

So long as Ashley Marin (Laura Leighton) and Ella Montgomery (Holly Marie Combs) stay out of jail, we think we could handle it.

Catch the return of PLL Season 3 on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
