Pretty Little LiarsTroian Bellisario (Spencer) is one hard working lady. In addition to PLL, she has a handful of upcoming films, including C.O.G. Based on a story from David Sedaris’ Naked, C.O.G. stars Glee’s Jonathon Groff as Samuel, a disillusioned young person who travels to Oregon to work on an apple farm. It premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Troian was there and took the time to talk to Teen Vogue about her role in the film, her vacation with boyfriend Patrick J. Adams (of Suits fame), and Spencer as a role model.

In C.O.G., Troian plays Jennifer, Samuel’s best friend and college roommate.

“I'm reading a Steinbeck novel Grapes of Wrath, and I have the idea that we should just go be like simple people,” Troian said of her character. “We should just go work in a field and both be honorable and get home at night and go to sleep in our beds and we'll feel good, we'll earn our money. And he's like, 'That's a great idea. Let's go out and pick apples all summer.' And I say, 'Awesome. You go out. I'm going to meet you there.'”

Jennifer later ditches Samuel, and they have a “friend breakup,” according to Troian. Samuel continues on his journey to “find out what he really wants in life.”

“It’s a really special movie,” said Troian.

With all of these work commitments, it’s hard to imagine Troian ever finds time to take a break, but she told Teen Vogue that she managed to squeeze in a trip with boyfriend Patrick to Canada “where his family is,” and a jaunt to Southeast Asia. OK, so the latter is actually to do press for work, but Troian did say, “I think we’re going to sneak in a couple of days before we go back to work.”

Sounds like a charmed life, but Troian is down-to-earth about it. She also talked to the magazine about how cool it is that Spence is a role model to many girls who are struggling with perfectionism:

“So many of the girls that I've heard from have said, 'You've made me realize that I don't have to be perfect. I don't have to have the pressure that I've put on myself and that my school puts on me. That I can take the time to be me. Thank you.’”

Troian added that a lot of girls have reached out to her about their struggles with body image and a cycle of comparison that Troian said she herself can sometimes fall into:

“I have a lot of girls say, 'You're so beautiful,' or 'I wish I looked like you,' and I'm rolling into work like, 'I wish I looked like so-and-so.' It's this cycle that we as women have to break out of...On my Instagram, my boyfriend will take pictures of me or someone else will take a picture of me and they're like, 'What is wrong with her? She looks sick.' And I'm like, 'No I just don't have two hours of hair and makeup, you guys.'”

Talented and modest. It’s hard not to adore Troian even more! We have been super impressed by her acting chops this past season and can’t wait to see her try them out in upcoming films.
