The hiatuses between Pretty Little Liars seasons can seem to last forever. One way to curb off hiatus fever is to catch the show’s stars in other projects, like Troian Bellisario’s Lauren. The web series not only showcases Troian’s major acting talent, but an important, contemporary issue: sexual assault against women in the military. Lauren is back for a second season on Friday, May 3, and Troian is super excited!
“Sneak Peek of #Lauren on @WIGS with @jenniferbeals. So excited to share it with you all,” Troian tweeted yesterday, along the Season 2 trailer. (When does Troian find time to film all of these things?).
The gritty drama’s three-episode first season debuted last year on WIGS, Youtube’s most-watched channel for scripted television. If you were impressed by Troian’s turn as “Dark Spencer” this past season on PLL, then her performance as the web series’ title character — a woman who was raped by fellow soldiers and now struggles to find justice — will blow you away. She stars along with Jennifer Beals and Bradley Whitford.
Troian talked to Wetpaint Entertainment in August about why she wanted the emotionally intense and politically charged role:
“I think one of the most horrific and shocking things about what's going on in the military right now, what the military is doing a great job of addressing now and needs to, is that often when women are strong enough and when men are strong enough to come forward and report something like what Lauren went through, like her rape, it's actually a decision as to whether or not they're pursued or whether the attackers are brought to light.”
We’re so proud of Troian for lending her talents to such an important issue, and can’t wait to watch the second season of Lauren while we wait for PLL to return! Watch the trailer below.
Pretty Little Liars Season 4 premieres on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
