On Pretty Little Liars, it's artsy Aria (Lucy Hale) who would probably find the time to delve into subversive film history, but in real life it seems that it's Troian Bellisario (Spencer) who makes that a priority. Troian has been channeling American filmmaker John Waters in some of her recent tweets. Check out the Waters references below!

“Just so we're all in the know.... This is Divine. Next a lesson on John Waters....” Troian tweeted yesterday, along with a screenshot from Waters’ boundary-pushing black comedy, Pink Flamingos. The 1972 film was met with controversy when released due its explicit depiction of a wide variety of perverse acts. Both the main character and the actor who played her (a flamboyant drag queen) were called Divine.

Troian also tweeted a shot of herself in Spencer gear, wearing a hat inspired by Pink Flamingos’ main character. “[Mandi Line] always makes me look DIVINE!” she posted along with the image.

Is Troian just having fun, or is this related to Pretty Little Liars? Mandi Line is the PLL costume designer, and when a fan asked Troian if there was going to be a John Waters theme during Season 4, she replied, "hahahahaha just you wait."

We’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention Troian’s trippy tweet featuring a shot of herself throwing a nervous glance over her shoulder at herself in the mirror.

“Watch your back, bitch. My own worst enemy,” she tweeted along with it. We’re guessing this is a PLL reference? Could Spencer’s downward spiral not be as over as we previously thought? Will we be seeing more dark Spence in Season 4? We kind of hope so.
