Emily’s family — The Fields — in Pretty Little Liars are apparently trying to find out if absence really does make the heart grow fonder. Emily (Shay Mitchell) has stayed in Rosewood while her parents are in Texas — so don’t you dare try to mess with ‘em. Here’s a rundown of what we know about the family, and what we can’t wait to find out when Season 2 finally returns.

Emily Fields
Talk about bad luck: She was attacked by Ben, nearly drowned by Paige, and drugged by “A,” and yet Emily somehow still keeps on going, Energizer Bunny-style. The sporty, slightly reserved Liar has had her share of relationships, but it seems the one that never quite was — with Alison — has impacted her the most. These days, Em’s still in town (bunking with Hanna instead of eatin’ BBQ in Texas with the folks) and hoping to get her relationship with newly returned Maya back on track. Considering that Maya is one of her few exes who has yet to assault her, we’ll go ahead and give our approval.

Pam Fields
Pam (Nia Peeples) is a conservative, supportive mom — who doesn’t take any crap. She has slowly accepted that Emily dates girls, even getting to know Samara (which is a far cry from her icy attitude toward Maya). When Em’s dad ended up stationed in Texas instead of Afghanistan, Pam wanted to move the whole family there, but they compromised and just Pam moved. And we’re glad Em is still in Rosewood, even though we’d love to see her with Texas hair.

Wayne Fields
Upbeat (and often bordering-on-jolly) Wayne Fields (Eric Steinberg) is a colonel in the U.S. Army. He has proven to be fairly supportive of Emily’s sexuality, even more so than his wife Pam. He was once stationed in Afghanistan but is now in Texas, where Pam has joined him, and Emily will once she’s done with senior year in Rosweood. When he’s in town, Wayne loves to support Emily at her swim meets — and we would go as far as to say that his cheering even puts Michael Phelps’ mom to shame.

Pretty Little Liars is currently on hiatus, but you can catch a special Halloween episode on Wednesday, October 19 on ABC Family!
