Emily Fields likes to be casual and comfortable; she usually sports striped sweaters, jean skirts, and Converse. However off-screen, Shay Mitchell is willing to wear almost anything. Shay explains, “My style varies every single day. Some days it'll be tights and a plaid shirt and just some Wayfarer sunglasses. Otherwise it's extremely girly and it's a flowered dress and really girly accessories. So it's always switching. I'm a chameleon. That's my style." At events, Shay always looks glamorous in asymmetrical dresses, sequins and ruffles, but when she’s just hanging out, she doesn’t feel like she needs to dress for a fashion show. Shay recently told JustJaredJr, “By traveling to so many places I’ve seen many different styles and have learned what works for me and what doesn’t. Fashion to me is supposed to be fun and exciting, so I try not to take it too seriously.” But she does take her Spanx seriously. Just ask her.
The little liars are pretty stylish, so it’s no surprise that they were named Seventeen magazine’s “Style Stars” of 2010. We love their separate looks on the show, but even outside of PLL, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, and Shay Mitchell stand out for their fabulous and unique fashions.
Hanna Marin is obsessed with trends, but in real life Ashley likes more variety by blending several styles. She explains, “I love Marc Jacobs, I love Chanel for girly stuff, AllSaints has really great stuff.” Ashley even tweeted “allsaints has become my new obsession...great boots great clothes...sooo much fun to shop there.” She’s hoping to change up her look even more and told Seventeen, “I'm trying to find a really cool vintage store cause I like to just find old pieces and mix them with newer stuff." Ashley can pull anything off, so we can’t wait to see what she does with this.
Lucy explains that her character, Aria Montgomery, “is a little more out there and quirkier than I am in real life but, we have the coolest wardrobe stylist in the world. Her name is Mandy and she's tatted up and edgy and will wear anything. She's sort of broken me out of my shell a little bit in real life and helped me take chances and jump over that line." Props to Lucy for incorporating Aria’s edginess into her wardrobe. You can always count on Lucy to rock the red carpet in tough pieces like leather, a fierce accessory, or studded ankle booties while still looking feminine and flirty. No wonder why Teen Vogue named her one of the top 50 best-dressed celebrities of the year.
It's not just cardigans and oxford shirts for Troian. In fact, her personal style is anything but preppy. Troian often wears blazers, shorts with knee-highs, and edgy boots. She confesses, “I have way too many pairs of boots. There was actually one moment when I realized I did not have a comfortable pair of shoes. I just had cowboy boots, riding boots, motorcycle boots, vintage, lace-up and I didn't have Converses. It was so weird to go to the mall and say, 'I'm just going to buy myself some sneakers.'" That’s not hard to believe because Troian always incorporates boots and eccentric accessories like long necklaces, feather earrings, berets and fedoras into her outfits.
