When does it happen? At least one of the Liars finds out the truth in this upcoming episode, Season 3, Episode 16: "Misery Loves Company." Based on this preview and this interview with Lindsey Shaw (Paige McCullers), it seems like that Liar is Spencer (Troian Bellisario).
How does it happen? According to Keegan Allen Toby slips up, and that's how a Liar figures out the truth.
How does Spencer find out? According to Keegan, the way Spencer finds out the truth is really terrible and painful. We're thinking she might catch him in a slip up on their anniversary, which is happening in Episode 16.
Spencer's emotional arc. We will see a "deep," complicated, and emotional arc for Spencer after she finds out the truth, and you better bet it's not pretty. But while Spencer is emotionally destroyed, in some ways that also frees her up to become even more powerful.
We will get an explanation for Toby's choices. Don't worry. Why Toby is part of the "A" team will definitely be explored in depth.
A lot of drama. The reveal is just the beginning of the Toby drama. According to Keegan, Toby will be very involved in the later half of the season. "He is responsible for a lot of issues that happen later on in the season ... He is very active in taking part in the destruction later on," and "there is a lot of interaction between Toby and the girls, not only in a malicious way but in a mind-bending kind of way. He really pushes the girls to their breaking point."
