So, you’re still dying to know who the new “A” is on Pretty Little Liars. Don’t worry — we’ve got our crack team of sleuths on the case, picking up even the tiniest clue from the summer finale for your mystery-solving pleasure. Here are some hints from Season 3, Episode 12: “The Lady Killer” that may help us solve this thing for good!
3. Garrett Reynolds
Why he might be “A”: It now seems clear that Garrett (Yani Gellman) has a connection to the “A” team, since Mona (Janel Parrish) says that they planted Maya’s phone on Paige in order to make her appear to be Maya’s killer and get Garrett out of jail. And Garrett certainly knows Toby (Keegan Allen) well, since Garrett used to date Jenna (Tammin Sursok), so it’s possible that Toby and Garrett have been conspiring against the Liars together. Whatever Garrett’s up to, we felt a lot better with him behind bars.
Why he might not be: At the end of Season 2, Jenna gives page 5 of the autopsy report to Toby, who turns it over to the police to get Garrett busted. So if Toby and Garrett were in fact working together on the “A” team, you would think that Toby wouldn’t turn Garrett in like that. We’re also still wondering if there’s more of a reason why Spencer’s (Troian Bellisario) mom took Garrett’s case. Mrs. Hastings may trust Garrett, but that doesn’t mean that we have to.
2. Toby Cavanaugh
Why he might be “A”: Our Spoby-loving hearts are shattered! It certainly appears that Toby is on the “A” team, as he was in front of Radley with Mona. But is he actually part of the team, or is he just playing the role to help protect Spencer and the girls? There are plenty of reasons as to why he would join the “A” team, given that he hated Ali for the Jenna thing and for sending him to juvie. But how could he do that to Spencer?! We’re still in shock.
Why he might not be: Given that Toby is a hoodie-wearing, voice changer-using conspiracy partner with Mona, sorry Spoby fans, but Toby is on the “A” team. Plus, showrunner Marlene King said in an interview that Toby has zero good intentions from now on.
1. Alison DiLaurentis
Why she might be “A”: Last week, we learned how much Alison hates Paige (Lindsey Shaw) — and that she’s possibly even scared of Alison (Sasha Pieterse). So this week when we hear Mona say that the “A” team planted Maya’s phone on Paige and planned to frame Paige for Maya’s murder, it’s safe to assume that Ali was behind the decision to bring down Paige. Paige might no longer be known as Pigskin, but we’re thinking that Ali is still holding a grudge.
Why she might not be: We’d been getting used to seeing Alison show up regularly whenever there is a PLL finale, so it was surprising that she didn’t stop by this week. That said, we still think that Ali (or her twin) is involved in the “A” team, so we can’t wait to see if the second half of the season brings more clues about that. Quick question: Is it January yet?
