So, you’re still dying to know who “A” is on Pretty Little Liars. Don’t worry — we’ve got our crack team of sleuths on the case, picking up even the tiniest clue for your mystery-solving pleasure. Here are some hints from Season 2, Episode 21: “Breaking the Code,” that may help us solve this thing for good!
Suspect #1: Melissa Hastings
Why she might be “A”: We’re certainly not 100% sure that we can trust this Jonah guy, but it’s still quite suspicious that he provided the girls with the address to Melissa’s (Torrey DeVitto) old law firm. Plus, it was clearly quite a shock for Spencer (Troian Bellisario) to see Melissa on that incriminating video and to know that she’s been hanging out with fellow “A” suspect Garrett (Yani Gellman). Melissa may have been gone from PLL for quite a while, but she did plenty to get our attention this week.
Why she might not be “A”: We still think it’s pretty harsh for a blood relative of the girls to be the one behind all of this deviousness, including almost killing Spencer’s boyfriend Toby (Keegan Allen). And it wouldn’t be in this show’s nature to hand us the identity of “A” this far before it’s supposed to. We all know this show likes to make us work hard for our answers!
Suspect #2: Garrett Reynolds
Why he might be “A”: It was creepy for the girls to finish doing business with Jonah, only to look over and see Garrett staring at them from his car. (Time to get some other hobbies, dude!) And Garrett apparently had been following Spencer around all day, as if he were afraid of what the girls might learn from Jonah. Personally, we’d be frightened to see what Garrett’s gas bill looks like — gas ain’t cheap these days.
Why he might not be “A”: The thing about “A” is that “A” stalks the girls constantly but without getting caught, a key ingredient that Garrett clearly overlooked. And between his relationship with Jenna (Tammin Sursok) and now his curious hospital visit with Melissa, maybe his main fault is that he’s looking for love in all the wrong places?
Suspect #3: Wren Kim
Why he might be “A”: We’d like to believe it was all a complete coincidence that Wren (Julian Morris) just happened to show up at the bar when Spencer was trying to confront Melissa about being in the video, but something just feels way too suspicious about that. And now that Melissa is uber-suspicious, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Wren was spending so much time with her back in the day (not to mention that we met Wren back in the pilot, which is the episode when we supposedly first met “A”). Plus, don’t all villains in TV/film have British accents? Just sayin’.
Why he might not be “A”: We hate accusing him of being “A” this week, considering this was the week when he acted especially gentlemanly by refusing to sleep with Spencer while she was “pissed.” And he and Spencer are so cute together that we’d like to think that she wouldn’t accidentally fall for “A.” (Although speaking of “fall,” we can’t help wondering if Wren was the one who made Toby fall off the scaffolding...)
