Ever since the promo for the Pretty Little Liars Season 2 winter season promised that someone will die, we've been desperately theorizing about who the unlucky victim will be. After a cop showed up at Emily's (Shay Mitchell) door at the end of Season 2, Episode 21: “Breaking the Code,” ominously telling her he was there about Maya (Bianca Lawson), we immediately had to wonder: Is it Maya who bites the bucket?
We've collected relevant spoilers and hints about Mayas fate, to try to parse out what will happen to her.

Maya will die: A Twitter spoiler? The most damning evidence that Maya's life may be cut tragically short is a spoiler allegedly tweeted by her father, which is rumored to say that she is the one who dies. Of course, this tweet was quickly deleted, and there's been no response from any official channel. This is a very unreliable spoiler — but that doesn't mean it can't be true.
Maya is missing: In the Canadian preview of Season 2, Episode 22: “Father Knows Best,” we see a newspaper article saying Maya is "missing." On one hand, that can't be good news. On the other hand, maybe that makes her the person who goes "missing" according to the previews, which might mean she's not the person who dies. (Then again, the "missing" person could have been Lucas Gottesman [Brendan Robinson], who went MIA a few episodes ago but returned shortly thereafter.)
We will see Maya again: According to Shay Mitchell (Emily), Season 2, Episode 20: “CTRL:A,” is "not the last [we]’ll be seeing of Maya." That suggests Maya's not dead at this point. That seems like good news — unless we see her again just to watch her die. That would be heartbreaking, and the Pretty Little Liars writers do love to make us cry.
Maya's potential connection to the main plot: So far, Maya hasn't really been connected to the main mystery plot, which makes her potential death seem extraneous. However, we shouldn't forget that there have been some suspicious Maya moments. First, there are the constant texts from her ex — or is that really all they are? There's also Maya's weird associations with Noel Kahn (Brant Daugherty) and Jason (Drew Van Acker). Are these clues that Maya is more mixed up with the "A" mystery — willingly or not — than it seems?
So, what does it all mean? We clearly can't say for sure if Maya will die, but her sudden disappearance, combined with the rumors about her death and the fact that the previews say someone has to go, definitely suggests we should be worried about Rosewood's hottest bad-girl.
At this point, it seems like the biggest missing piece is motive: Maya may be a rebel, but so far we haven't seen her do anything to invoke a murderous rage from "A" or anyone else.
However, it's possible we'll discover Maya is more tangled up in this whole thing than it seems, and in that case, we'll be really nervous for her. We've speculated that Maya might actually be "A," but that's hardly the only way she could be involved. Maybe her stalker ex is part of the mystery. Maybe there was an essential clue in the box of Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) stuff that she found, and "A" needs to make sure she doesn't spill to the Liars. Maybe it's actually "A" who has been texting her with threats, and Maya’s just making up the whole nasty-ex thing.
