Prince William Leaves the Military to Focus on Public Service and Conservation Efforts

Since the birth of the royal baby, Prince William was only able to be with his family for a few weeks before his paternity leave ended and he was called back to duty as a search and rescue pilot with the Royal Air Force. The 31-year-old new father has recently decided to end his nearly 8-year-long stint with the British military, but he’s not just pining for more family time.

According to an official press release posted on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s website, Prince William “will continue to support the work of The Queen and the Royal Family through a programme [sic] of official engagements, both at home and overseas, with The Duchess of Cambridge… He will expand his work in the field of conservation, particularly in respect of endangered species.”

The release adds, “The Duke will continue to work with his charities on issues relating to children and young people, veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces. The Duke is currently considering a number of options for public service.”

We do know that William, following in the footsteps of his father, Prince Charles, is a huge advocate for conservation efforts in Africa, so he will likely be putting in more hours there, for sure. As little Prince George gets older, we really hope to see the pair taking trips together, just as William was inspired by his own father’s work as a young boy, as well as Princess Diana’s many charitable works. Wills has already given George a kick start with a nursery reportedly decked out in a full safari theme!

The release also states that Kate and William will be settling into their Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace “within the next few weeks.” So perhaps that’s where Kate was headed when she made her pit stop at McDonald’s?
