Private Benjamin Star Eileen Brennan Dies

The character actress who played the drill captain in Private Benjamin and Mrs. Peacock in Clue has died at 80 years old after a long struggle with bladder cancer. Known for her roles as ladies with tough-as-nails exteriors with candy centers, newer viewers may know her better as Zandra, Jack's acting coach on Will & Grace. She also had a long run on 7th Heaven as Gladys Bink.

A prolific TV actor, she also was featured in story arcs for TaxithirtysomethingERMurder She Wrote, and more. Her role in Private Benjamin earned her a Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Emmy Award.

A true survivor for most of her life, Eileen recovered from a 1982 incident where she was hit by a car, breaking multiple bones in her face, breaking both legs, and pulling an eyeball from the socket. In 1990, she survived breast cancer.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends and former co-stars.
