Glee Promo: In-Depth Analysis of Season 5, Episode 4: “A Katy or a Gaga”
Tonight, we cried our eyes out watching Glee’s Cory Monteith tribute. It was rough. It was emotional. We’re going to need some time to recover. And you know what? Glee is giving it to us. The show is going on a break until Thursday, November 7.
But when Glee does return, prepare for an epic Katy Perry vs. Lady Gaga battle! Season 5, Episode 4: “A Katy or a Gaga” is all about the music of these two pop divas. So what is about to go down? We’ve been hard at work tracking down spoilers, and now this promo offers even more sneak peeks. Now it’s time to analyze it — second-by second, frame by frame — in search of more clues about what to expect.
00:01 — Thursday, November 7
Yep, you read that right. We’re going to have to wait almost a month for new episodes of Glee. Sigh. Waiting is hard. Okay, but now Schue (Matthew Morrison) is talking. “Drumroll, please.”
00:04 — “War is declared!”
It’s Schue vs. Sue (Jane Lynch)! “Bring it on,” he growls at her. Sorry, butter hair. Our bet’s on her. “Brung,” she sneers back. Cut to the choir room. Uh...why is Jake (Jacob Artist) wearing a super-weird lion costume?
We mean, Katy Perry does have a song called “Roar.” But we don’t think this is the actual performance, because the spoiler photos we’ve seen from it look a whole lot cooler.
00:08 — “It’s the Katy Perrys vs. the Lady Gagas”
How cute does Marley (Melissa Benoist) look all dressed up in a bubblegum pink wig and matching red and white candy suit? Her “California Gurls” ensemble is perfectly Katy Perry..spinning candy wheels and all. We love it.
That’s right. We said Madonna cover band. Also: Demi Lovato. The girl is basically flawless, and we are so glad to see her back this episode! (And if she and Santana want to get in some sweet lady kisses, we definitely wouldn’t complain.)
But back to Adam Lambert. His character’s name is reported to be Starchild. (Not his real name, obviously. It’s a stage name. His real name is Elliott Gilbert.) He’s auditioning for the cover band by singing Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night.” And we’re not going to lie: He’s knocking it out of the park.
Dani loves it. Santana’s jaw is on the floor. Kurt, however, does not look impressed. Rumor has it Starchild will be Kurt’s new rival. And yes, they are going to face off in song at some point this season.
00:17 — Starchild’s hanging from a chandelier in the NYADA classroom.
And spinning around as the lights glisten and sparkle. It looks really cool but also totally unsafe. That huge glass chandelier can’t be that sturdy, can it? We sure hope he doesn’t break it. Ouch.
00:20 — “Glambert! Gaga! Katy”
Oh. Hey there, shirtless Sam (Chord Overstreet). We’d forgotten that Glee seems to insist that poor Chord remove his shirt at least once every few episodes. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a specific number of shirtless scenes specified in his contract.
00:22 — “What do we call it?”
“I came up with an amazing name,” Santana announces. Dani and Rachel smile. Kurt is not impressed. “We are not naming the band The Apocalypsticks, okay?”
