Grey’s Anatomy Propmaster Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Stories From Iconic Moments

A lot of work goes into making Grey’s Anatomy the beautiful hour of television we get to see each week, and so many of the details are things we miss because of the crazy drama that goes on between the characters, but without them, the show wouldn’t be the same. And among the most important details? The props.

And the woman behind the details, propmaster Angela Whiting, shared some of her favorite props and their stories with Buzzfeed this week.

One of the most iconic? The famous Post-it note that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) wrote their wedding vows on. “The marriage Post-it is unusual, because it’s something they actually built on camera. Which is rare,” Angela said. “They have the dialogue scripted, and they’re performing the scene together. He’s writing the dialogue down as they’re saying it.”

Another throwback? The check Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) gave Izzie (Katherine Heigl) for eight million dollars when he died — you know, the one that ended up on the fridge and was eventually covered in food because Izzie refused to cash it? Yep, that’s the one.

“She gets it, it’s clean,” Angela said. “It sits on the fridge, and some time passes. It needed to look like she had held it in her hands and left it on the counter and spilled things on it in her indecisiveness and agony about not knowing what to do with what she perceived as blood money.”
