R. Kelly may have a hit on his hands with his “Do What You Want” duet with Lady Gaga, but it turns out that Kellz’s comeback may be interrupted by jail time. According to Page Six, R. Kelly has allegedly fallen behind on child support payments and his attorney fears that the crooner could be put in jail.
The Black Panties recording artist is accused by his ex-wife, reality TV star Andrea Kelly, of not paying the $20,833 a month that he owes in child support. The singer was in hot water last year for falling $100,000 behind in support, which he eventually paid off.
R. Kelly, who apparently has gone into hiding, is not making the situation any better since he already missed a court date in November 2013. A Page Six source says his attorney is concerned that if Kelly doesn’t make it to the March 27 hearing of his child-custody battle in Chicago, a judge can give him anything between 30 days and 6 months in jail.
And things only seem to be getting worse for the controversial R&B star.
According to sources at Page Six, Kelly owes his lawyer James Quigly’s firm thousands of dollars, as well as several people who worked on his album at Upfront Megatainment. “There’s a line of people Kelly owes money to who worked really hard on his last album,” said the source.
Let’s hope that Kellz is smart enough to either make an appearance or fork over the cash. Otherwise, he may be crooning for an audience of inmates.
