Singer Randy Travis in Critical Condition After Suffering Stroke (UPDATE: He’s Unable to Speak)
UPDATE (6/21/2014): Sadly, country star Randy Travis is said to still be suffering from his 2013 stroke. TMZ reports that he has been unable to speak since suffering the stroke almost a year ago. He also uses a cane to walk. We continue to wish him all the best in his recovery.
UPDATE 7.31.13: On July 31, Randy was released from Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas. Randy's fiancee, Mary Davis, released a statement on RandyTravis.com, saying, "Thanks to all the fans and friends for your continued prayers and support as Randy continues on the road to recovery." Although he was released from the hospital, he has not gone home, going instead to a physical therapy facility.
Original story: Randy Travis has had yet another setback on his road to recovery. The singer, who was hospitalized on Sunday for heart-related illness, has suffered a stroke while receiving treatment, according to People.
No sooner had the 54-year-old's doctors released statements regarding his improved condition than he took a turn for the worse. On Wednesday, Dr. Michael Mack, a doctor treating the star, commented of his state, "His condition has stabilized and he has shown signs of improvement."
However, on Thursday morning, his rep announced that despite the proclamations of an improved condition, he has suffered another medical setback, from which doctors will attempt to mitigate the damage, telling fans, "As a complication of his congestive heart failure, Mr. Randy Travis has suffered a stroke and is currently undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain."
Randy's inner circle have rushed to his bedside since he first entered the hospital, as noted by his rep: "His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support."
