Rashida Jones Defends Her Twitter Rant: “I’m Sick of the Pornification of Pop Stars”

Miley Cyrus, listen up: Rashida Jones is tired of seeing you (and every other pop star this year) naked, and she’s ready for a change in trend. Like, ASAP.

After she came under fire for “slut-shaming” earlier this year when she advised Hollywood to “stop acting like whores” on Twitter, Rashida’s tired of being treated like she’s done something wrong — and in an essay she recently wrote for Glamour, she’s ready to speak out on what being a feminist actually means.

I'm not gonna lie. The fact that I was accused of "slut-shaming," being anti-woman, and judging women's sex lives crushed me,” the Parks & Recreation star wrote. “I consider myself a feminist. There is a difference, a key one, between ‘shaming’ and ‘holding someone accountable.’”

And although stripping down for music videos and performances is hardly a recent development in pop culture, Rashida’s noticed it’s definitely been happening more frequently in 2013, and for one reason: laziness.

“I also grew up on a healthy balance of sexuality in pop stars,” Rashida said. “Twenty years later, all the images seem homogenous. Every star interprets 'sexy' the same way: lots of skin, lots of licking of teeth, lots of bending over. I find this oddly...boring. Can't I just like a song without having to take an ultrasound tour of some pop star's privates?”

Just like Rashida, we are holding out hope that this could all change in 2014 — but if it doesn’t, she’s prepared to roll with it.

“Besides, let me get to the point of this, which is that I'm dropping my new single this year!” Rashida said. “And if everything continues in this direction, my single will be literally dropping out of my butt. Live at the Video Music Awards. See you there.”
