On Season 4 of Love & Hip Hop, a lot of relationships bit the dust, including the 8-year friendship between stars Tahiry Jose and Rashidah Ali. When Rah tried to advise Tahiry to make better decisions when it came to her career and her love life, the conversation took a nosedive and the two ladies had a falling out — possibly for good. When Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Rashidah, the reality star dished on how things went sour in her “one-sided” friendship with Tahiry.
“During the course of our 8-year friendship, we always discussed life things that she’s doing things that I’m doing — mostly things that she’s doing because our friendship was one-sided,” Rashidah told us, adding “It was kind of situation where I was always there for her and I was always a support system for her, but the tables would never turn.”
As we continued to talk to Rashidah about her blow up with Tahiry over Tahiry’s urban modeling and on-again, off-again relationship with Joe Budden, Rashidah told us that for years she’s been telling Tahiry to evolve from the urban modeling scene to better her career and her relationships with men.
“My point was you’re dating guys that are great guys, cool guys, but they’re not taking you seriously by posting pictures of your body on Twitter and not showing you a certain level of respect. And I believe it’s because you’re not showing yourself a certain level of respect,” Rashidah said. “I would say to her as a friend for years like ‘OK, well yeah you did the modeling thing… what do you want to do next? Do you want to start a business? It’s time to evolve from the urban modeling world,’” adding“It’s kind of like real estate: it’s extremely oversaturated and you’re not going to be able to get the return on it that you might have been able to get at one point.”
Furthermore, Rashidah felt that Tahiry’s modeling was hurting her chances with men giving her respect. “You’re going to get back whatever you’re putting out,” she said. “So if you’re putting out the wrong things, and if you’re not getting the results that you want from putting those things out, then try something different.”
Though things ended pretty badly between the two (and we’ll get to see a bit of a resolution during Part 2 of the reunion special), Rashidah said she has “absolutely no hard feelings toward [Tahiry] whatsoever at all.” She even remarked “She can model until she’s 50 if she wants to. It’s not my place. I’m not her guardian.”
Rashidah has gone back to focusing on more important things in life — including her upcoming wedding, which is going to get its own special thanks to Basketball Wives producer Shaunie O’Neal. Though she couldn’t give us the deets on when it will air (the network hasn’t officially announced it), she did tell us that we can expect to see her walk down the aisle this year with her “mystery man” fiancé. “It’s definitely worth the wait,” she told us.
In addition to her televised wedding special, Rah is also working on her online shoe boutique, Encore Shoetique, a skin care line for women of color called Saige, and an urban street novel series called “A King and an Ace” which hits the masses March 27, 2014.
Rashidah gets face-to-face with Tahiry during Part 2 of the Love & Hip Hop reunion special airing Monday, February 10 at 8 p.m. ET on VH1.
