Ratings for “Bachelor: Behind the Scenes” Tank — How Low Did They Go?

To be fair, ABC had no shot of kicking butt in the ratings last night.

We’ll give them that, because the 2014 Golden Globe Awards were on, and even Bachelor Nation folks were tweeting about the fashions and speeches instead of The Bachelor: Behind the Scenes special. Let’s be honest — that Bachelor look-back was tapable, at best, but a perfect zing about George Clooney’s ageism must be experienced live.

So it's probably not a surprise to The Powers That Be that Sundays' The Bachelor: Behind the Scenes special only took in 3.29 million viewers, with a 0.9 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic. It got its butt kicked by the Golden Globes (17.1 million, 5.4 rating) and also by 60 Minutes and The Simpsons. Sundays can be brutal with so much competition.

If tonight's ratings for Episode 2 take a dive, we'll read into things, but last Monday’s premiere did very well — the best premiere in three years, in fact, with 8.65 million watchers and a 2.7 rating — and this week's special was mostly filler. No offense, it was beautiful filler, full of attractive people, but there was nothing must-see about it.

Next Sunday, on the other hand, should be more of a draw, when ABC airs The Bachelor: Love Stories special, with updates from the various couples as a lead-in to Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici’s January 26 wedding.

Did you watch any of last night's Behind the Scenes special? Did you even tape it? Are you planning to see the Love Stories special next Sunday? How about SeanCat’s wedding? It's pretty rare to have so much Bachelor content in any given month, so if it gets mixed results, it may not happen again.
