Grey’s Anatomy Ratings Down From Season 10 Premiere in Episode 3 — Sort Of

Grey’s Anatomy came back with a bang — and a death — for its Season 10 premiere last week, but that couldn’t stop ratings from being down slightly. Now, the numbers are in for Episode 2, and they’re not the best — but they definitely haven’t flatlined, either.

The September 26 premiere — a two-episodes-in-one-night extravaganza — got 9.3 million viewers and a demo rating of 3.4. That’s down 20 percent from last year’s premiere, but still up slightly from the 9 million viewers who tuned in for the Grey’s Season 9 finale last spring.

This week, viewership held strong, and even increased a smidge, bringing in a total of 9.4 million viewers. That said, it did decline in demo rating, slipping a few points down to 3.0. However, it was it’s most-watched telecast since October 2012, according to an ABC press release and beat out CBS’ comedies (The Crazy Ones and Two and a Half Men: 2.7/7), NBC’s comedies (Sean Saves the World and The Michael J Fox Show: 1.7/5), and a shocking 88 percent over Glee (1.6/5).

In summary, Grey’s ratings aren’t at record highs, but they certainly aren’t anything to be upset about, either. This show is still winning out over most of its competition, even 10 seasons later, which is impressive.

Shonda Rhimes’s other big show, Scandal, however, triumphs in ratings. Their Season 3 premiere happened this week and got 10.5 million viewers plus a 3.6 demo ratings. Long story short: Shonda Rhimes is the queen of network television. But we sort of knew that already.
