Dancing With the Stars Ratings Hit All-Time Finale Low

It looks like Dancing With the Stars made the right call by cutting the Results Show for the fall season — last night garnered the lowest finale ratings out of all 16 seasons.

Though excitement built throughout the two-hour show, it wasn’t enough to get the audience too excited. It drew 15 million and a 2.6, which was up significantly week-over-week, but was down 16 and 21 percent from last year’s Mirror Ball crowning, according to TVLine.

This is a 180-degree turn from the final performance night, which was the highest-rated since the Season 16 premiere! However, maybe four hours of DWTS in one week was a bit overkill, especially since they announced the fourth place pair (Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas) within the first 15 minutes of the Results Show, then dragged through four musical performances, a final round of Instant Dance performances, and then finally the winner was crowned. (Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough took home the prize, to no one’s surprise.)

These low ratings could also be due in part to the season being a bit predictable. As mentioned above, we’ve known for a while that Kellie and Derek or Zendaya and Val would win, and each week, we guessed the eliminated pair correctly. Hopefully next season will be more exciting — and in turn, get higher ratings!
