The Originals Ratings For Season 1, Episode 9 Hit Series High!

The Originals is inching closer to a Season 2 renewal thanks to its stellar ratings for the most recent episode (Season 1, Episode 9: “Reigning Pain in New Orleans”). In fact, the episode scored a series high in total viewers with 2.4 million people tuning in to watch the midseason finale, reports Zap2it.

More impressively, The Originals and Supernatural — which had its biggest audience since its season premiere — gave the CW its most-watched Tuesday in more than five years! Whoa. Who knew the Mikaelsons and the Winchesters would make such a compelling combo?

The Originals matched its highest 18-49 demo rating with a 1.1, which pretty much proves it can hold its own against mother show, The Vampire Diaries. At this point a Season 2 renewal is a sure thing, but when will the CW make the big announcement? Given The Originals’ latest ratings success, we think the network will announce a Season 2 before 2013 is over.

Catch the next episode of The Originals on Tuesday, January 14 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
